World AIDS Day 2025 Official Community Launch

World AIDS Day is a day to show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people we have lost to the epidemic. World AIDS Day is recognised internationally with many countries marking the day with events to raise public awareness of HIV and AIDS care, treatment, research and prevention.

This years theme is: No One Left Behind

Living Positive Victoria in conjunction with our partners will host the Official Community Launch, with speeches from a range of guests followed by morning tea and lunch.

This event will provide an opportunity to gather as a community, show solidarity with people living with HIV, and remember those we have lost to an AIDS-related illness. The afternoon will included talks by some of the leading researchers, scientists and community advocates in the field of HIV research.

Order of the day

🔴 9:30am to 12pm Morning session  – Official Community Launch

  • Welcome to Country – Willie Pepper from the Boonwurrung Land and Sea Council
  • Opening address by Victorian Government Department of Health
  • World AIDS Day address by the President of Living Positive Victoria, Craig Brennan
  • Lived experience talk by Ko’lini
  • 10:30am to 11am Morning tea
    • Community Forum panel discussion: Moderator Chad Hughes in conversation with Javier, Marc and Percy.
  • 12pm to 1pm Lunch

🔴 1pm to 5:30pm Afternoon session  – mHIVE Scientific Symposium

    • Welcome address by Professor Brendan Crabb (Director & CEO the Burnet Institute)
    • Keynote Speaker: Dr Jeanne Marrazzo (Former Director NIH)
    • Clinical Perspectives Speaker: Professor Jason Ong (Director, Melbourne Sexual Health Clinic)
  • 2:40pm to 3:20pm Afternoon Tea
    • Community Perspectives Panel Discussion: Moderator Dr Sushena Krishnaswamy (ID physician, Monash Health) in conversation with Dr Mihiri Weerasusia (MonashHealth), Mohamed, Babi and Dr Dean Murphy (ARCSHS).
    • ViiV Healthcare Early-Midcareer Research Abstracts
    • Poster Viewing session
    • Gilead Award Presentation & Event Official Closing
