As part of this project, students created a series of short animated videos which strived to address the issues surrounding stigma for people living with HIV. As part of this class, students were tasked with researching the experiences of stigma for people living with HIV, as well as draw on their own experiences with stigma. They contextualised their learnings and experiences into a series of videos that address what stigma can feel and look like, as well as what being an ally can look like. As student animators, the opportunity to work with a client always presents an invaluable opportunity to practise and apply their course learnings in pitching, verbal tone and audience, written communication, and applying feedback to best meet client needs. This special episode is a live recording from a community panel that took place at Collingwood Yards at the “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” exhibition, a project in partnership with Living Positive Victoria, the National Association of People With HIV Australia and ViiV Healthcare. This panel brings together artists, advocates, and community voices to reflect on how HIV campaigns have shifted over time, what they got right, where they caused harm, and what we can learn as we move forward. The panel guests are: • Nic Cheers (he/him) a writer/advocate/activist, living with HIV since 2012. • Angela Bailey (she/her) a curator, photographer and creative producer and vice president of the Australian Queer Archives • Robert (he/him) diagnosed in 2003, and has lived positive ever since. Robert was living in the United Kingdom during the onset of the HIV epidemic in the 1980s. He was diagnosed HIV positive in 2003. In 2021, he became a volunteer at Living Positive Victoria, including telling his story of living as an HIV Positive person through the Speaker’s program.
