HIV Disclosure Guide launch + workshop

Living Positive Victoria and the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) invite you to take part in the re-launch of the updated and revised HIV Disclosure Guide, plus a workshop exploring it in detail and answering your questions, hosted by Hope Street Radio.
Originally launched in 2020, this comprehensive guide examines the considerations of disclosing your status in various scenarios such as workplaces, relationships, travel and migration. This new edition “Disclosing your HIV Status: Your Rights and Responsibilities in Victoria” builds on this and ensures that the information is up-to-date and relevant for people living with HIV today. There will also be a launch of a new and updated ‘pocket guide’ for easy access of the key information right at your fingertips!
Excerpt from the guide:
Disclosure is one of the main areas where the law affects the lives of people living with HIV. Whether you are thinking about disclosing your status or someone is asking you to, this guide will help you to understand the legal requirements, non-legal considerations, and your rights to privacy and non-discrimination when disclosing. The guide may also help people such as counsellors and social workers who offer support services to people living with HIV.
The guide includes:
- information about your right to privacy and freedom from discrimination
- how to protect these rights.
About the event:
Hear from HALC’s Strategic Policy Lawyer, Bethany Rodgers, about the legal considerations at play when deciding who to disclose your status to (or not disclose), and your rights if your privacy is violated or you experience discrimination. This will be facilitated in a workshop style setting with an opportunity to ask questions at the end.
If you have a question you’d like to ask at the event, you can submit it (anonymously if you choose) using this form and the speakers will do their best to answer it. There will also be an opportunity to answer questions from the audience on the night.
Light refreshments will be provided.
