Positive Relationships
“I need to tell you something…”
“I’d like you to know that I’m…”
You’ve probably used these words before, or perhaps you’ve been wanting to have this conversation with a friend, a lover, a family member or someone whom you would like to share your HIV status with?
Every person living with HIV has a different approach when it comes to letting other people know about their status.
In this free two-hour workshop for HIV+ men who have sex with men and trans and gender-diverse folks, you will:
- Learn from other folks living with HIV about different ways you can share your HIV status in different settings.
- Explore issues that may arise from sharing your HIV status with another person.
- Learn the benefits of sharing and not sharing your status.
- Meet a serodiscordant (HIV+ & HIV-) couple and learn about their story.
- Learn about the settings where it may be necessary for you to share your HIV status.
- Develop an understanding of HIV & The Law.
This workshop will be run by our Health Promotion Officer/Peer Navigator Emil Canita, Peer Navigator Beau Newham and Policy Officer Craig Burnett. For this session, we will also be joined by a couple of community members, Carlos & Brendan, who will talk about their experiences of dating & relationships and talking about HIV, .
We hope to run this event at our South bank office; however, in the case of complications brought by COVID-19, we will be moving this workshop online via Zoom. If transport or having the appropriate technology to connect online is an issue for you, please get in touch with us as we may be able to provide some support.
To keep us all safe from COVID-19, you will be asked to check in and provide your proof of vaccination to attend this event. We’ve also put a number of COVID-safety measure to ensure everyone’s safety.
We understand that attending these types of events can be anxiety-inducing and may not be easy for people who are neurodivergent or experience a disability to attend. As part of your registration, our Health Promotion Office/Peer Navigator, Emil Canita will be in touch with you to check in if you need any additional support.
If you do have any questions or would like to talk to Emil now, please feel free to send Emil an email at emil@livingpositivevictoria.org.au
We’re looking forward to having you join us.
