Taking Charge: Who wants a cure?

Everyone is hanging out for a cure to HIV, right? Well, it’s not that simple.

While many people cannot wait to be ‘cured’ of HIV for the obvious health reasons, others may feel that they are doing well and be reluctant to pin hopes on a cure. And then there are those who wear their status on their sleeve, for whom changing their identity from poz back to neg would be, well, daunting.

At this event Craig Burnett, Living Positive Victoria’s Senior Policy and Research Officer, and Brent Clifton, Deputy Director of NAPWHA, will be joined by friends from the HIV Long Term Survivors Network based in San Francisco. We will discuss the many questions and challenges that arise when we think about an HIV cure. Questions such as How close are we to a cure? What kind of cure do we want? Will we need to temporarily stop taking our medications, the very thing that’s keeping us alive? and What happens after a cure, will we need to go on PrEP to stop getting HIV again?

This event is open to all people living with HIV over 50.
