March with us at this Midsumma Pride March

In response to recent disgusting and hateful comments posted on our Facebook feed regarding our involvement in Pride March  (which we have deleted), LPV CEO Richard Keane says:

“I have never seen such negativity and hatred like we experienced over the last week on Facebook.  Our team had to monitor our posts and remove comments and imagery that was offensive, violent and potentially traumatising for our community. As a result this post will have comments disabled so that is not repeated.

The opposite of hate is love and taking PRIDE in who we are in all our wonderful diversity.   I wish to personally extend an invitation to our members, our clients and allies to join us at this years’ Pride March on Sunday.

The activism and solidarity that built our movement is now being required of us again to fend off far right extremism taking place across a range of social and other media platforms and attacking our community and our right to live a life free from hatred and persecution. Now more than ever, we need to show our resilience, our solidarity and come together with love and Pride.”

With this at top of mind, we welcome you to join Team LPV at this year’s celebratory Midsumma Pride March. Regardless of your status, this is about proudly showing support for people living with HIV and celebrating diversity in all its forms.

Pre registrations to march have now closed but if you would like to turn up on the day, the assembly point for the LPV contingent is WAVE M, at the Ian Johnson Oval, cnr Fitzroy Street & Lakeside Drive, St Kilda. Please meet us there between 9.30 – 10am.

The March itself will commence at 10:30am on Fitzroy St where we will eventually reach the Catani Gardens. (*this time is correct as of 7PM, 30 Jan)

We’d love you to join us in this exciting opportunity to get together again and celebrate our diversity.

A note regarding the weather: Sunday is forecast to be very hot, however, at the time of the march, temperatures are estimated to be in the low 30s. We request that you use your own discretion and make your own judgement around your ability to march. We encourage you to come prepared with hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and water.  We will have additional water and sunscreen just in case!
