Creative Ways to Fundraise

As the end of the financial year fast approaches, the race to draw upon the generosity of our community is on.

In a sector-wide funding constrained environment the need to fundraise is paramount. This, matched with the increasing levels of hardship faced in meeting day to day living expenses, make the fundraising dollar an even more precious and valued addition to the operating budget of organisations like LPV.

Why we fundraise

Living Positive Victoria has been a leading voice in the community response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Victoria for more than 30 years.

As the nature of the HIV epidemic has changed, so too has the needs of our members and our need to continue to respond to a range of issues affecting the health and wellbeing people living with HIV.

Living Positive Victoria works to provide programs and services for people living with HIV that go towards improved health education and awareness, individual and collective resilience raising, capacity building, community connectivity and peer to peer support.

With a one-off donation or regular recurring donations, your support will make a difference to the quality of life of people living with HIV and help us address the mental and physical health barriers that alter the ability of people living with HIV to live the best life they can.

We rely on the support of individuals and organisations to:

  • Facilitate access education, referral and advice to people living with HIV in Victoria;
  • Advocate on behalf of people living with HIV and lobby government, business, and non-government organisations, to ensure improved wellbeing, care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS, their partners and family members;
  • Encourage a positive image of people living with and affected by HIV, to break down prejudice, isolation, stigma and discrimination;
  • Build capacity for positive change in people living with HIV, allowing them to live with dignity and lead valued and meaningful lives as full participants in our community.

What we’ve done differently this year

This year LPV has collaborated with some generous souls in a variety of creative fields to raise awareness of  the work we do and to promote our need to continually fundraise to achieve our mission.

On line gamer Jordan, AKA Skellybear18, plays on a video streaming channel called Twitch. Over the course of one month in 2023 Jordan set up a donation facility on his channel that aligned with a series of streaming goals that he set for other gamers. Our latest edition of Poslink+ Listen describes how it all works and Jordan tells of his own HIV experience and his desire to contribute to raising awareness around the programs and services offered by LPV and encouraging donations from fellow gamers.

Tattoo artist Heck Hound worked with LPV during May 2024 to help us fundraise by offering a range of Keith Haring themed tattoos with a percentage of income donated. This, and the donations achieved by Jordan went towards boosting our FLIP Fund, that provides financial assistance to any member of LPV (via an approval process) who is seeking assistance with returning to work, study or accessing our events and services.

If you are a creative practitioner with an avenue to raise funds for LPV we’d love to hear from you about ways to collaborate in the coming year. Contact LPV Senior Communications Officer, Brenton Geyer to chat about opportunities.

If you are an individual or organisation that would like to donate to LPV directly, please access the donation page on our website.
