Two-and-a-half New Disclosure Resources for People Living with HIV
We’re pleased to release two new disclosure resources for people living with HIV, alongside a new pocket guide version of one of the resources.
Together, these publications support people to navigate HIV disclosure with confidence, care and clear, practical information. They centre lived experience, choice and rights, and are designed for people living with HIV, peer workers, services and community organisations.
All of the resources are FREE and available online using the buttons below.
Let Them Know: Why and how to share your HIV story
Let Them Know is a national, peer-led disclosure resource created by and for people living with HIV. It supports people to decide if, when and how they might share their HIV status, recognising that there is no single right way to disclose.
The resource brings together lived experience, practical guidance and community knowledge, including how to talk about HIV today, navigating stigma and other people’s reactions, and stories from people across diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Developed by Living Positive Victoria, the resource is free to access and share, mobile friendly, and supported by ViiV Healthcare and the National Association of People Living with HIV Australia (napwha).
Disclosing your HIV status: Your rights and responsibilities in Victoria
Developed in partnership with the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC), this information resource supports people living with HIV to understand their rights, responsibilities and protections when it comes to disclosure in Victoria.
It explains that there are very few situations where disclosure is legally required and clearly separates legal requirements from non-legal considerations. The resource covers privacy, freedom from discrimination, common myths about having a “duty of care” to disclose, and how to protect your rights.
Disclosing your HIV status: pocket guide
The pocket guide is a condensed, easy to read version of Disclosing your HIV status: Your rights and responsibilities in Victoria.
It provides a clear and accessible overview of key rights, responsibilities and disclosure considerations. The pocket guide is designed for quick reference and is ideal for sharing and use in peer, clinical and community settings.
Please note: these resources provide general information only and do not replace individual legal advice. People are encouraged to seek advice about their own situation before taking action.
