Taking Charge: Positive Self-Management Program

This is a FREE online event is for people living with HIV 50 years and up.

You’re invited to join our Positive Self-Management Program!

The Positive Self-Management Program is an evidence based, client-centred, educational program that’s been developed by Stanford Medicine, Stanford University, California. This program follows the principles of self-management, community-based health education and a strong empowerment philosophy. The program provides the skills to coordinate health management needs and set achievable goals. The Positive Self-Management Program can help improve your quality of life.

Conducted by trained peer workers and volunteers, the sessions are highly interactive, where mutual support and success will build your confidence in your ability to manage your own health and maintain an active and fulfilling life. Furthermore, subjects covered in the program include:

  • How to find connection with others and breakdown social isolation isolation
  • How to best integrate medication regimens into your daily life so they can be taken consistently
  • Discover techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fear, fatigue, pain and isolation
  • Find an appropriate exercise for you to help maintain and improve your strength, flexibility, and endurance; information on nutrition
  • Help evaluate your own symptoms
  • Find ways on how to communicate effectively with family, friends, and health professionals such as your doctor
  • and how to achieve your goals…and lots more!

The sessions are 2.5 hours, once a week for 6 weeks commencing Tuesday 16th February 2021, 6-8.30pm and then every Tuesday for 6 weeks.
