Taking Charge: Positive Self Management Program
Wish to improve your quality of life? Gain some skills and knowledge to better look after yourself?
This six week self-management program can help put you on the right track.
The program will be delivered in person. Open to all adults living with HIV regardless of age, gender identity or sexuality.,
The dates for this program are:
- Wednesday 8th November, 6PM – 8:30PM
- Wednesday 15th November, 6PM – 8:30PM
- Wednesday 22nd November, 6PM – 8:30PM
- Wednesday 29th November, 6PM – 8:30PM
- Wednesday 6th December, 6PM – 8:30PM
- Wednesday 13th December, 6PM – 8:30PM
This program is highly interactive, where mutual support and success will build your confidence in your ability to manage your own health and maintain an active and fulfilling life. As well as addressing other challenges such as depression, loneliness, isolation and stigma. By participating in this program, you will gain valuable knowledge and skills to manage your HIV and your general health. The program is facilitated by trained peers.
Subjects covered in the program include:
- Connect with others and breakdown that isolation;
- How to best integrate medication regimens into your daily life so they can be taken consistently;
- Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fear, fatigue, pain and isolation;
- Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance;
- Nutrition;
- Evaluating symptoms;
- Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals such as your doctor;
- How to achieve your goals…and lots more!

The Self-Management Program is an evidence based, patient centered, education program model of Stanford Medicine, Stanford University, California. This program follows the principles of self-management, community-based health education and a strong empowerment philosophy. The program provides the skills to coordinate health management needs and set achievable goals.
This program is part of the Taking Charge project, a partnership between Living Positive Victoria and Thorne Harbour Health.
