Drop the Jargon day helps promote clear, jargon-free communication

To mark this year’s Drop the Jargon day Living Positive Victoria renews its commitment use plain language in all of our communications. This means avoiding clinical and scientific language, as well as keeping information simple and easy-to-read.

For Drop the Jargon Day 2023, we have developed a series of short videos about HIV. These videos are based on our pocket-sized The Facts booklets, and have been produced in English, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese and Portuguese.

These short videos provide a summary of the latest important HIV information about what people can do to live well with HIV and prevent HIV transmission.

We are also working on simplifying and translating our larger The Facts brochures into eight community languages.

These resources have been written by and for people with HIV, covering topics like HIV basics, finding a doctor, HIV treatments, and understanding the Australian healthcare system. We are also producing and translating a new resource about HIV treatment as prevention and U=U.

As part of this translation project we are working with multilingual members of our community to make sure that the translations don’t include any stigmatising words or ideas.

These new translated resources will be available in the months ahead.

If you would like hard copies of any of these resources please make a request via email.

Living Positive Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.
