SUMMARY:HIV Disclosure Guide launch + workshop
DESCRIPTION:Living Positive Victoria and the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) invite you to take part in the re-launch of the updated and revised HIV Disclosure Guide\, plus a workshop exploring it in detail and answering your questions\, hosted by Hope Street Radio. \nOriginally launched in 2020\, this comprehensive guide examines the considerations of disclosing your status in various scenarios such as workplaces\, relationships\, travel and migration. This new edition “Disclosing your HIV Status: Your Rights and Responsibilities in Victoria” builds on this and ensures that the information is up-to-date and relevant for people living with HIV today. There will also be a launch of a new and updated ‘pocket guide’ for easy access of the key information right at your fingertips! \nExcerpt from the guide: \nDisclosure is one of the main areas where the law affects the lives of people living with HIV. Whether you are thinking about disclosing your status or someone is asking you to\, this guide will help you to understand the legal requirements\, non-legal considerations\, and your rights to privacy and non-discrimination when disclosing. The guide may also help people such as counsellors and social workers who offer support services to people living with HIV. \nThe guide includes: \n\ninformation about your right to privacy and freedom from discrimination\nhow to protect these rights.\n\nAbout the event: \nHear from HALC’s Strategic Policy Lawyer\, Bethany Rodgers\, about the legal considerations at play when deciding who to disclose your status to (or not disclose)\, and your rights if your privacy is violated or you experience discrimination. This will be facilitated in a workshop style setting with an opportunity to ask questions at the end. \nIf you have a question you’d like to ask at the event\, you can submit it (anonymously if you choose) using this form and the speakers will do their best to answer it. There will also be an opportunity to answer questions from the audience on the night. \nLight refreshments will be provided. \nHow to find us: \nThis event is taking place at Hope Street Radio\, which is within the Collingwood Yards precinct.\nIt’s on the ground level of the Perry Street Building. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\nThis event is part of a week long exhibition\, You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) presented by LPV\, the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA) and ViiV Healthcare. \nOther events coinciding with the exhibit:\n🎤 Friday 6 February 6PM – 8PM\nStorytelling Evening / Exhibition Launch \nAn intimate evening of readings from contributors to Let Them Know: Why and How to Share Your HIV Story\, creating space for shared listening\, connection\, and community. \n➡️ Please register for this event here \n  \n  \n  \n🗣️Sunday 8 February 10:30AM – 12PM\nPanel Discussion: HIV Campaigns\, Memory\, and Visibility\nHeld during the VicPride Street Party as part of Midsumma Festival\, this panel brings together people from our communities to reflect on the cultural\, political\, and community histories of HIV campaigns. \n➡️ Please register for this event here \n  \n  \n  \nEveryone is welcome. SUMMARY:Reflecting on HIV Campaigns Through the Years: Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:From fear-based messaging to sex-positive\, peer-led\, and community-driven storytelling\, HIV campaigns have always reflected the social and political moments they were created in. \nThis panel brings together artists\, advocates\, and community voices to reflect on how HIV campaigns have shifted over time\, what they got right\, where they caused harm\, and what we can learn as we move forward. \nDrawing on lived experience\, creative practice\, archives\, and community work\, the conversation explores how images\, language\, and public messaging shape how people living with HIV are seen\, treated\, and understood. \nSet against the backdrop of You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)\, this discussion asks what it means to create HIV campaigns today. Who are they for? Who is missing? And how do we make work that is ethical\, accountable\, and grounded in lived realities rather than fear or simplification? \nThis is a reflective and forward-looking conversation about visibility\, responsibility\, and the power of representation in HIV storytelling. \nAbout the speakers:

SUMMARY:Multicultural Engagement Strategy: Community Launch
DESCRIPTION:In the lead-up to this year’s World AIDS Day events\, Living Positive Victoria invites you to join us for the launch of our Multicultural Engagement Strategy 2025–2028. \nDeveloped in partnership with Ananda Training & Consultancy and guided by our Multicultural Advisory Committee\, this strategy is the result of extensive consultation with a broad range of multicultural organisations and community stakeholders. \nQuote from CEO\, Richard Keane: \n“Building on our recognised support programs for multicultural folks living with HIV\, this Multicultural Engagement Strategy shifts us from being reactive to the needs of emerging communities to being proactive and deliberate. It strengthens our organisation through a three-year action plan that embeds an anti-racism framework\, improves cultural and psychological safety\, builds capacity\, and elevates the lived experience of people born overseas and Australians of diverse cultural backgrounds. Our goal is to ensure inclusiveness\, accessibility\, and meaningful engagement across all our programs and services.” \nJoin us to be among the first to see the official launch of this important piece of work that will guide our organisation’s direction for years to come. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. \nGetting there: \nThe Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre is a short walk from the #1 tram stop on Swanston St\, servicing the 1\, 3\, 5\, 6\, 16\, 64\, 67 and 72 tram lines. The building is wheelchair accessible. \nOn-street metered parking is available in surrounding streets (make sure to check signage).

SUMMARY:Taking Charge: Advance Care Planning Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Taking Charge Peer Support Network\nFor people with HIV 50 years of age and up.\nThe next Taking Charge\, Peer Support Network meeting will be an information session on Advance Care Planning presented by Alfred Health on 2nd October 2025 at 5pm at the Positive Living Centre followed by dinner.\n\nPartners/Carers Welcome \nAdvance Care Planning is a process that ensures family and treating healthcare teams understand what is important to you and how you want to be treated if you become unable to make decisions or communicate your wishes. \n\nAdvance Care Planning can include: \n\nCommunicating – Talk to family\, friends and doctors about what is important to you. Discuss your values\, preferences and what you would find unacceptable in relation to your health.\nAppointing someone – Think about who you trust to make medical decisions on your behalf if you are unable to make them yourself. You can complete a legal form to appoint someone as your Medical Treatment Decision Maker.\nPutting it on paper – You can write down your values\, preferences and what is important to you in an Advance Care Directive.\n\nAnyone can make an advance care directive. It is particularly important to those who have a chronic health condition or are regularly admitted to hospital. It is ideal to undertake advance care planning when your health is stable. \nDinner will be catered for all participants after the information session. \n\n\nTaking Charge is a partnership between Thorne Harbour Health and Living Positive Victoria. \nFor more information contact Gerry O’Brien at gerry.obrien@thorneharbour.org or James Seow at Living Positive Victoria\,  jseow@lpv.org.au
