SUMMARY:Polaroid\, Polaroid\, Polaroid
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening night of Polaroid Polaroid Polaroid\, a group exhibition presented by MARS Gallery in support of Living Positive Victoria. Inspired by the enduring appeal of the Polaroid\, the exhibition brings together artists\, curators\, and community members exploring themes of memory\, intimacy\, storytelling\, and connection through this iconic photographic medium. Alongside the exhibition\, works from artist Emil Canita’s polaroid series will be on display\, curated in accompaniment to LPV’s Let Them Know: Why and How to Share Your HIV Story resource with support from ViiV Healthcare. Proceeds from artwork sales and donations will support Living Positive Victoria’s peer-led programs and services for people living with HIV. \nPresented by MARS Gallery in support of Living Positive Victoria \n  \nOpening Event\nTuesday 23 June\, 6.00pm to 8.00pm \n  \nLiving Positive Victoria (LPV) is pleased to support and promote Polaroid Polaroid Polaroid\, a group exhibition presented by MARS Gallery that brings together a snapshot of the MARS community while raising funds for people living with HIV. \nInspired by Andy Warhol’s love of capturing the everyday with a Polaroid camera\, the exhibition invites artists\, curators\, and art enthusiasts to explore the Polaroid as both a photographic medium and an object open to personal interpretation. \nSince its introduction in 1948\, the Polaroid has become an iconic and accessible form of photography\, loved for its ability to transform fleeting moments into instant keepsakes. Polaroid Polaroid Polaroid celebrates this playful and democratic medium through a diverse collection of works contributed by the MARS community. Proceeds from artwork sales will support the work of Living Positive Victoria. \nAlongside the exhibition\, artist Emil Canita will showcase their polaroid series curated in accompaniment to LPV’s resource Let Them Know: Why and How to Share Your HIV Story\, supported by ViiV Healthcare. \nLet Them Know was developed in response to a long-standing gap in how HIV disclosure is supported in Australia and globally. The project grew from peer-led HIV disclosure workshops that began during COVID-19\, a period marked by heightened isolation and uncertainty. \nPhotographed in domestic\, intimate\, and everyday settings\, the images centre moments of closeness\, trust\, and vulnerability rather than disclosure as a singular event. The people featured come from diverse cultural backgrounds and life experiences\, reflecting the multicultural reality of people living with HIV in Australia today. Each image is paired with a verbatim quote drawn from the participant’s own story. Rather than attempting to explain a life in full\, these fragments function as gestures of recognition\, curiosity\, and care. \nDeveloped by and for people living with HIV\, Let Them Know is a national campaign featuring voices from across Australia and across the serodivide. It reframes HIV disclosure not as something driven by fear or obligation\, but as a gift. Knowing someone’s HIV status is a privilege. The works presented form part of a national poster campaign distributed through clinics and community organisations across Australia. \nFunds raised through Polaroid Polaroid Polaroid will help support LPV’s peer-led programs\, community activities\, and services that reduce isolation and strengthen connection for people living with HIV across Victoria.

SUMMARY:2026 International AIDS Candlelight Memorial
DESCRIPTION:Peer Magic: The Power of Connection\, Care and Lived Experience \n2026 marks 41 years since the first International AIDS Candlelight Memorial was held in Melbourne. This year we recognise the vital role of peers in the response to HIV and AIDS with the theme Peer Magic: The Power of Connection\, Care and Lived Experience. \nJoin us as we gather in community to share stories\, reflect\, and commemorate the friends\, family and lovers we have lost to AIDS over the decades. Together we honour the enduring strength of peer support and the people who continue to shape a more compassionate and informed future for those living with HIV. \nAs we light candles in remembrance\, we also look forward. The memorial is a time to acknowledge the power of connection\, care and lived experience\, and to reaffirm our commitment to building a better world for all peers living with HIV. \nThe evening will feature a panel discussion on the power of peer connection\, alongside reflections from community speakers including Susan Paxton\, Adam Ehm and LPV CEO Richard Keane. \nMusic from the Low Rez Melbourne Male Choir will be woven throughout the program\, leading into a candle lighting moment to honour those we have lost and celebrate their lives. \nAttendees will also recieve a commemorative pin to mark this special occasion.

SUMMARY:HIV Disclosure Guide launch + workshop
DESCRIPTION:Living Positive Victoria and the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) invite you to take part in the re-launch of the updated and revised HIV Disclosure Guide\, plus a workshop exploring it in detail and answering your questions\, hosted by Hope Street Radio. \nOriginally launched in 2020\, this comprehensive guide examines the considerations of disclosing your status in various scenarios such as workplaces\, relationships\, travel and migration. This new edition “Disclosing your HIV Status: Your Rights and Responsibilities in Victoria” builds on this and ensures that the information is up-to-date and relevant for people living with HIV today. There will also be a launch of a new and updated ‘pocket guide’ for easy access of the key information right at your fingertips! \nExcerpt from the guide: \nDisclosure is one of the main areas where the law affects the lives of people living with HIV. Whether you are thinking about disclosing your status or someone is asking you to\, this guide will help you to understand the legal requirements\, non-legal considerations\, and your rights to privacy and non-discrimination when disclosing. The guide may also help people such as counsellors and social workers who offer support services to people living with HIV. \nThe guide includes: \n\ninformation about your right to privacy and freedom from discrimination\nhow to protect these rights.\n\nAbout the event: \nHear from HALC’s Strategic Policy Lawyer\, Bethany Rodgers\, about the legal considerations at play when deciding who to disclose your status to (or not disclose)\, and your rights if your privacy is violated or you experience discrimination. This will be facilitated in a workshop style setting with an opportunity to ask questions at the end. \nIf you have a question you’d like to ask at the event\, you can submit it (anonymously if you choose) using this form and the speakers will do their best to answer it. There will also be an opportunity to answer questions from the audience on the night. \nLight refreshments will be provided. \nHow to find us: \nThis event is taking place at Hope Street Radio\, which is within the Collingwood Yards precinct.\nIt’s on the ground level of the Perry Street Building. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\nThis event is part of a week long exhibition\, You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) presented by LPV\, the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA) and ViiV Healthcare. \nOther events coinciding with the exhibit:\n🎤 Friday 6 February 6PM – 8PM\nStorytelling Evening / Exhibition Launch \nAn intimate evening of readings from contributors to Let Them Know: Why and How to Share Your HIV Story\, creating space for shared listening\, connection\, and community. \n➡️ Please register for this event here \n  \n  \n  \n🗣️Sunday 8 February 10:30AM – 12PM\nPanel Discussion: HIV Campaigns\, Memory\, and Visibility\nHeld during the VicPride Street Party as part of Midsumma Festival\, this panel brings together people from our communities to reflect on the cultural\, political\, and community histories of HIV campaigns. \n➡️ Please register for this event here \n  \n  \n  \nEveryone is welcome. SUMMARY:Reflecting on HIV Campaigns Through the Years: Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:From fear-based messaging to sex-positive\, peer-led\, and community-driven storytelling\, HIV campaigns have always reflected the social and political moments they were created in. \nThis panel brings together artists\, advocates\, and community voices to reflect on how HIV campaigns have shifted over time\, what they got right\, where they caused harm\, and what we can learn as we move forward. \nDrawing on lived experience\, creative practice\, archives\, and community work\, the conversation explores how images\, language\, and public messaging shape how people living with HIV are seen\, treated\, and understood. \nSet against the backdrop of You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)\, this discussion asks what it means to create HIV campaigns today. Who are they for? Who is missing? And how do we make work that is ethical\, accountable\, and grounded in lived realities rather than fear or simplification? \nThis is a reflective and forward-looking conversation about visibility\, responsibility\, and the power of representation in HIV storytelling. \nAbout the speakers:

SUMMARY:Multicultural Engagement Strategy: Community Launch
DESCRIPTION:In the lead-up to this year’s World AIDS Day events\, Living Positive Victoria invites you to join us for the launch of our Multicultural Engagement Strategy 2025–2028. \nDeveloped in partnership with Ananda Training & Consultancy and guided by our Multicultural Advisory Committee\, this strategy is the result of extensive consultation with a broad range of multicultural organisations and community stakeholders. \nQuote from CEO\, Richard Keane: \n“Building on our recognised support programs for multicultural folks living with HIV\, this Multicultural Engagement Strategy shifts us from being reactive to the needs of emerging communities to being proactive and deliberate. It strengthens our organisation through a three-year action plan that embeds an anti-racism framework\, improves cultural and psychological safety\, builds capacity\, and elevates the lived experience of people born overseas and Australians of diverse cultural backgrounds. Our goal is to ensure inclusiveness\, accessibility\, and meaningful engagement across all our programs and services.” \nJoin us to be among the first to see the official launch of this important piece of work that will guide our organisation’s direction for years to come. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. \nGetting there: \nThe Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre is a short walk from the #1 tram stop on Swanston St\, servicing the 1\, 3\, 5\, 6\, 16\, 64\, 67 and 72 tram lines. SUMMARY:March with us at this Midsumma Pride March
DESCRIPTION:In response to recent disgusting and hateful comments posted on our Facebook feed regarding our involvement in Pride March  (which we have deleted)\, LPV CEO Richard Keane says: \n“I have never seen such negativity and hatred like we experienced over the last week on Facebook.  Our team had to monitor our posts and remove comments and imagery that was offensive\, violent and potentially traumatising for our community. As a result this post will have comments disabled so that is not repeated. \nThe opposite of hate is love and taking PRIDE in who we are in all our wonderful diversity.   I wish to personally extend an invitation to our members\, our clients and allies to join us at this years’ Pride March on Sunday. \nThe activism and solidarity that built our movement is now being required of us again to fend off far right extremism taking place across a range of social and other media platforms and attacking our community and our right to live a life free from hatred and persecution. Now more than ever\, we need to show our resilience\, our solidarity and come together with love and Pride.” \nWith this at top of mind\, we welcome you to join Team LPV at this year’s celebratory Midsumma Pride March. Regardless of your status\, this is about proudly showing support for people living with HIV and celebrating diversity in all its forms. \nPre registrations to march have now closed but if you would like to turn up on the day\, the assembly point for the LPV contingent is WAVE M\, at the Ian Johnson Oval\, cnr Fitzroy Street & Lakeside Drive\, St Kilda. Please meet us there between 9.30 – 10am. \nThe March itself will commence at 10:30am on Fitzroy St where we will eventually reach the Catani Gardens. (*this time is correct as of 7PM\, 30 Jan) \nWe’d love you to join us in this exciting opportunity to get together again and celebrate our diversity. \nA note regarding the weather: Sunday is forecast to be very hot\, however\, at the time of the march\, temperatures are estimated to be in the low 30s. We request that you use your own discretion and make your own judgement around your ability to march. We encourage you to come prepared with hats\, sunglasses\, sunscreen and water.  We will have additional water and sunscreen just in case!  \n

SUMMARY:Latinx Social Group: 1000 steps hike
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a refreshing morning hike at the 1000 Steps in the Dandenong Ranges. \nEscape the city for a few hours\, soak in the beautiful greenery\, and connect with fellow positive Latinx community members. It’s the perfect way to start your weekend with good vibes and great company! \n\nHoli!!👋🏼 \n🚶🏻We are excited to invite you all to join us for a morning hike at the beautiful 1000 Steps in the Dandenong Ranges. We’ll be meeting at Flinders Street Station on Saturday at 10 AM and heading off together to explore this lush\, green escape just outside the city. Our plan is to return around 2 PM\, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the hike and each other’s company. \n⛰ If you haven’t been there before\, the 1000 Steps\, also known as the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk\, is a short but steep hike that winds through the dense forest of the Dandenong Ranges. It’s perfect if you want a quick adventure and a chance to get out of the city for the morning. It only takes about an hour to get up and down\, but trust me\, it’s worth every step. Plus\, getting there early helps beat the crowds! \n🚞 We’ll be taking public transport\, so please bring your Myki card with enough money for two trips (one to the Dandenongs and one back to the city). If you don’t have a Myki card or need assistance with transportation\, please let us know so we can work something out. \n☀️ Don’t forget to bring water\, a hat\, and sunscreen to keep yourself comfortable and protected during the hike. The Aussie sun can be intense\, even in the cool shade of the forest! \n🌎 This hike is for our Positive Latinx social group\, and spots are limited\, so if you’re keen to join\, make sure to register ahead of time. And if something comes up and you can’t make it\, just let us know so we can pass your spot to someone else. \n📱If you’ve got any questions or need more info\, feel free to reach out to Carlos Araya\, at caraya@lpv.org.au. We are really looking forward to spending a great day with all of you\, getting some fresh air\, and enjoying the beauty of the Dandenong Ranges. \n🥹 Hope to see you there!
